Authentic Uji Matcheria Masuda Chaho Opens on Poznańska Street
More than a century after it was founded in Uji, Kyoto, Masuda Chaho has opened its first location outside Japan. Established in 1912, the historic matcheria has chosen Warsaw for its international debut, opening at 16 Poznańska Street.
Designed around Japanese minimalism, the space combines a matcheria, restaurant and retail shop. Natural wood, clean lines and traditional tatami seating create an atmosphere intended to reflect the quiet rituals of Japanese tea culture rather than simply serve as a backdrop for them.
At the heart of the project is Yasuhide Masuda, a chashi (tea master) who has spent more than 30 years preserving the traditions of Uji tea. According to the team, his long-standing ambition was to bring authentic Uji matcha beyond Japan's borders.

A traditional stone mill imported from Japan takes centre stage. Guests can watch matcha being freshly ground on the traditional stone mill, an increasingly rare process outside Japan.
Alongside a wide selection of matcha and hojicha drinks, the menu includes ramen, udon, yaki udon, gyoza, futomaki, nigiri, teriyaki dishes, karaage, takoyaki, miso soup, edamame, natto, wakame salad and Wagyu nigiri.
For the summer season, the spotlight is on Japanese kakigori – finely shaved ice served with a variety of toppings.

In an interesting twist, Masuda Chaho has opened almost directly opposite Happa to Mame, one of Warsaw's best-known matcha cafés. The two venues now face each other across Poznańska Street, turning the address into one of the city's most intriguing destinations for Japanese tea culture.
Address: 16 Poznańska Street, Warsaw.
